An Aesthetically Pleasing Online Bookstore for Art and Design Book Lovers!

Based in Delhi, Kapil and Priya Kapoor run a successful publishing house Roli Books and are the founders of CMYK Bookstore.Their goal was to make a unique spot that collected art and design books from various places. The two successfully opened their flagship store in Delhi’s Greater Kailash. They also expand their stores to showcase their book collection in other cities as well. Their stores are aesthetically pleasing and provide an inviting ambiance to browse, read and purchase books.

Despite having flagship stores, the client wanted to reach a wider customer base, both locally and globally. It became necessary for them to establish an online presence, enabling customers who are aficionados of art, design, and aesthetics to access the books from this online bookstore, from any corner of the world. Additionally, the pandemic, with its various lockdown restrictions, only solidified the idea of having an online presence.

This is where Progryss entered the picture. The client entrusted us with the responsibility of creating a website that would reflect the ethos of the flagship stores, as CMYK is synonymous with a certain aesthetic and has firmly established itself as a home for art and design books in the country. We decided that the website should provide a similar experience digitally.

Challenges and Objectives:

• To design and develop an e-commerce platform that visually appeals to the niche customer base in a short span of time.
• To make the website user-friendly, enabling customers to easily browse books by different genres.
• To integrate sections such as “Features” and include easy payment gateway options, a newsletter subscription option, and social media handles.

The Process: Mapping out the Solution

At Progryss, our team pooled all its expertise and resources and worked tirelessly to turn CMYK’s vision into reality. We fully utilized Shopify’s capabilities to build a robust, user-friendly, and functional e-commerce site. The key phases included:

Creating a Roadmap and Brainstorming Ideas: The first and foremost step was to understand CMYK Bookstore’s vision and prepare the website layout and chart out necessary features for the website.

Design Task: Our design team leveraged the spectacular design tools of Figma to create a tremendous website interface, ensuring an appealing browsing and shopping experience. We incorporated graphics of the actual store, giving a glimpse of what it would be like to visit the store.

Website Development: Focusing on user-friendly navigation, we categorized products under the “Books” page for easy access based on customer preferences and interests. We also added an “Editorial Picks” section on the side which would mimic the offline experience of book recommendation.

Testing and Approval: Rigorous testing ensured a flawless user experience, after which the client happily approved the design and development of the website.
